Wander Home: a direct-booking engine and a three-year climb from zero
Wander Home, a Pocono Mountains short-term-rental operator, had no website and every booking ran through commission-taking OTAs. We built its first site — a custom Next.js direct-booking app integrating Guesty, Stripe, and PriceLabs — and ran a three-year SEO and lifecycle program. Estimated organic footprint climbed from 2 ranked keywords at launch to more than 1,100, with top-10 rankings peaking at 131.
The owner & the bottleneck
Where it started.
Wander Home operates short-term rentals in the Pocono Mountains, a competitive leisure market where demand flows mostly through online travel agencies like Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com. When the engagement began in mid-2021, the company had no website of its own. Every booking depended on a third-party platform, which meant paying OTA commission on each stay and owning none of the guest relationship, the search visibility, or the booking data. The domain first appears in search history around July 2021, matching the site's launch and confirming the starting point: effectively zero organic presence, ranking for an estimated two keywords with almost no traffic value and no top-10 positions. There was nothing to build on. The program had to create the demand outright. The objectives were concrete: stand up a direct-booking experience that reduced OTA commission dependence, make Wander Home discoverable for the searches that drive Pocono vacation-rental bookings, and wire up the content, email, and guest-lifecycle systems a modern short-term-rental operator needs to retain guests and earn repeat stays.
What we built
The system we put in.
We built Wander Home's first website — a custom, Airbnb-style direct-booking web app on Next.js that integrated Guesty for property management, Stripe for payments, and PriceLabs for dynamic pricing. The app took bookings directly, enforced complex community-fee and variable-charge rules, and reduced the company's dependence on OTA commissions. On top of it we ran a master SEO plan as an ongoing program: keyword research across Pocono vacation-rental intent, Google Business Profile and citation building, link building, and continuous monitoring. A Sanity CMS and content pipeline fed the site and social channels. We built a Maizzle email system with six reusable, brand-styled components — Listing Card, Review Card, Blog Article Card, Event Card, Leave-a-Review CTA, and Communication Preferences CTA — auto-populated with the newest blog post, listings by name, local events, and a per-stay 'Wander IQ' weather and air-quality widget. A GoHighLevel CRM onboarding added lifecycle workflows: pre-stay, in-stay, and review-request emails with per-guest stay tracking. Marketing strategy rounded it out with a content calendar and a BnB profitability calculator concept built on the AirDNA API. The result was a system where a brand-new domain grew, over three years, into a real organic and direct-booking channel the company owned.
The numbers
What changed, measured.
The full story
How it played out.
Starting from zero
There is no before-and-after audit for Wander Home because there was no before. The domain was registered in April 2021, the first site — a hand-built HTML/CSS build — was committed that May, and the domain starts appearing in search history by July. Everything after that is the program compounding: content, local SEO, citations, and a booking product worth ranking.
The estimated value of that organic traffic followed the same curve — roughly $3 a month at launch, four figures by early 2024, and a peak of about $14,400 a month in August 2024. At the October 2024 handoff the estimate stood at roughly $8,000 a month with 63 keywords in the top 10, after peaking at 131 top-10 rankings in July.
First-party check: a Google Search Console view of the property (captured October 2025, trailing 16 months) shows 9.31K clicks and 726K impressions from June 2024 through October 2025 — with daily clicks peaking in June and July 2024, while the program was running, and tapering after it ended. Where the first-party window overlaps the estimates, the shapes agree.
The system behind the curve
Search growth was one output of a larger build. The direct-booking app gave Wander Home a channel it owned outright, the email system turned guest communication from a manual grind into assembled blocks fed by live data, and the CRM workflows kept guests engaged before, during, and after each stay.

How we measure
Traffic and keyword trajectory figures on this page are third-party estimates from DataForSEO historical rank data, clearly labeled. The one surviving first-party artifact is a Search Console screenshot from October 2025 covering the trailing 16 months: 9.31K clicks and 726K impressions from June 2024 onward, with daily clicks peaking in June–July 2024, during the engagement — it matches the shape of the estimates where the windows overlap. The engagement ran from the site's mid-2021 launch through October 2024. One more honest note: after the program ended, the estimated curve declined — by mid-2025 the traffic-value estimate had fallen to roughly $2,400 a month. The growth was the program, not gravity.
